My new toy

အိမ်မှာ အင်တာနက် လျှောက်ဖို့ စဉ်းစားနေတာ ကြာပြီ။ ဒါပေမယ့် ကိုယ်နေတဲ့နေရာဝန်းကျင်မှာက Streamyx လဲ အဆင်မပြေ WiFi တွေကလည်း မမိတမိဆိုတော့ ကပ်စေးလည်း နည်းနေတာနဲ့ဘဲ အခုမှ သွားလျှောက်ဖြစ်တယ်။ အရင်က Jusco က free wi-fi ကို သွားသုံးလိုက် Starbucks သွားလိုက်ဘဲ လုပ်နေတာ။ ဒီမှာ ရွေးချယ်စရာကလည်း နည်းပါးတယ်။ Wireless broadband ထဲမှာဆိုရင် Maxis နဲ့ Celcom က 3G, HSPDA, EDGE ရတယ်။ uMobile နဲ့ Digi က 3G မရသေးဘူး။ လပေါင်း တော်တော်ကြာကြာကို စဉ်းစားတွေးခေါ်ချင့်ချိန်ပြီး စိတ်ကူးပေါက်တဲ့တစ်ရက်မှာ Celcom Broadband သွားလျှောက်ပြီး Vodafone USB modem ကို RM ၃၉၉ နဲ့ ဝယ်ခဲ့တယ်။ Basic Package, Monthly Unlimited (5GB fair usage) အတွက် တစ်လကို ၆၈ ရင်းဂစ်။ Contract တွေ ဘာတွေ မရှိဘူး။ အရင်က သုံးတာ ၁၂လ မတိုင်ခင် ရပ်မယ်ဆို ရပ်ဆိုင်းခ ၃၅ဝ ပေးရသေးတယ်။ အခု မပေးရတော့ဘူး။ modem ကို အရစ်ကျ ဝယ်ချင်ရင်တောင် ရသေးတယ်။ ဒါပေမယ့် modem အရစ်ကျ ဝယ်မယ်ဆိုရင် ၁၈လ contract ချုပ်ရတယ်။ Unlimited ဆိုပေမယ့် ၅GB ထက် မကျော်ရဘူးတဲ့။ ဒေါင်းလုတ်တွေတော့ သိပ်လုပ်လို့ မရဘူး။ Unlimited ဆိုပြီး 5GB ဆိုတာ ဘာကြီးလဲလို့ မပြောပါနဲ့။ သင့်တင့်မျှတစွာ သုံးစွဲမှု ပေါ်လစီ (Fair Usage Policy ) ပါတဲ့။ :-D speed က 384kbps ဆိုပေမယ့် သိပ်အဆိုးကြီး မဟုတ်ပါဘူး။ Advanced package (3.6Mbps) က တစ်လကို ရင်းဂစ် ၉၈ ဆိုတော့ စဉ်းစားဦးမယ်။ သူလည်း တစ်လ 5GB ဘဲဆိုတော့ ဘာမှ သိပ်မထူးပါဘူး။ ပိုမြန်တော့ 5GB မြန်မြန်ပြည့်တာပေါ့။ ကိုယ့်ကိုယ် ကပ်စီးနည်းနေတာဘဲ ကောင်းတယ်။

I just subscribed to Celcom broadband. RM 68 per month, without contract or activation fees is a very good deal. I bought the Vodafone Modem for RM 399, paid RM 500 deposit since being a foreigner, RM 68 for the first month, that’s it. No other hidden cost. The speed is quite ok for my house area, Taman Melati. I’m now enjoying this new toy. ;)

At first, when I plugged-in the modem, an error message prompted saying “Get Profile failed”. After some googling, I found out that this is Vodafone-specific problem. The problem is solved after I followed the following instructions given in this forum.

1. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Manage.
2. Double-click Services and Applications, and then double-click Services.
3. Right-click Telephony and then click Properties.
4. On the General tab, click Manual next to Startup type.
5. On the General tab, click Start under Service status, and then click OK.
6. Repeat steps 3 - 5 for the Remote Access Connection Manager Service and for the Remote Access Auto Connection Manager Service.
